This pair of bronze paperweights depicts two recumbent greyhounds resting on an oblong base of classicizing design, treated as a quadrangular plinth with corners extended into semicircles. Each extremity is adorned with a laurel garland suspended in the manner of a twisted cord. The greyhounds, rendered with striking naturalism, adopt a posture of repose while maintaining a vigilant attitude, their gaze turned slightly to the side. One bends its left foreleg, while the other crosses its two forelegs. Both wear collars set with a front ring. The deep, nuanced patina of the greyhounds contrasts with the brilliance of the gilt-bronze base. This interplay of surface and material emphasizes the refinement of the modelling and heightens the tension between stillness and latent presence.
