Rare everyday objects
In 2020, at a time when lockdowns were restricting access to art and exchanges with collectors, galerie Léage founded “Young Collectors”. Aimed at a new generation of art amateurs, this site unveils part of the gallery’s collections online for the first time. In this way, it enables the excellence of 18th-century decorative arts to be made more widely available to connoisseurs. Collectors can buy objects directly online, further facilitating access to these works of art.
The “Young Collectors” collection is made up of works specially selected by Guillaume Léage. They meet the same criteria of authenticity and historical relevance as the rest of the gallery’s collection, but at a more accessible price of between 5,000 and 30,000 euros. A remarkable coin purse embroidered with the arms of Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, wife of the Dauphin and mother of Louis XVI, was one of the first “Young Collectors” pieces. Of exceptional provenance and conservation quality, this little masterpiece has now joined the collections of the Royal Castle of Warsaw.
From clocks and mounted porcelain to caskets and Compigné paintings, the “Young Collectors” catalogue is distinguished by its diversity. Ces œuvres, par leur format, leur finesse d’exécution, leur histoire et leur rareté, offrent une introduction privilégiée à l’univers des arts décoratifs du XVIIIe siècle. Compigné paintings, rarely seen on the market and seldom represented in public collections, are often offered in the Young Collectors’ selection. Réalisés par le marchand tabletier parisien Thomas Compigné dans la seconde moitié du XVIIIe siècle, ils ne sont probablement fabriqués que par lui et disparaissent avant la fin du siècle.
